About Fit to Be Tied
Fit to be tied came about as a result of my twin passions for junking and recycling. For years, I have been hunting and gathering in America’s finest Goodwill’s, Salvation Army’s, and St. Vincent de Paul’s and refashioning (or “misusing”) my finds into multifarious arts and crafts. Several years ago I noticed racks of ties for sale and ran my hands though them. Mmmm. All that silk. All that color. Oleg Cassini, Armani, Brooks Brothers, Liberty of London. These grand old flags deserved better than the dustbin of history. But what could be done?
I bought a bunch of ties and began to experiment. Then I bought another bunch. And another and another. What you see are the results of my first experiments. My children were my first customers. When parents of my children’s friends began calling and asking where I got them, I thought I might be on to something. From there it’s been a wild ride that has me, well...fit to be tied.
It has been entirely satisfying to retool these old-timers into something new and vibrant. Feel the heft and coolness of the silk. Feast your eyes on the richness of the color and design that begs to once again be a player on the fashion scene. I can’t take credit for all of that work; just the recycling part. I hope you’ll have as much fun buying and wearing these clothes as I’ve had making them.
